What is Botox ?
Botox is a neurotoxin that is produced by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. It is primarily used in cosmetic procedures to eliminate wrinkles and fine lines, but it can also be used to treat conditions such as cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and strabismus.
When injected, the neurotoxin stifles the release of acetylcholine from nerve endings, resulting in muscle relaxation. Botox is the most commonly administered cosmetic procedure in North America.
Who Should Get Botox ?
Typically, it’s recommended that those who want to receive Botox treatments start with preventive sessions to stave off wrinkles between the eyebrows. The injections, which can be administered every three to four months, help relax the muscle groups that cause squinting and frown lines. If you already have those lines, Botox treatments can soften or eliminate them within days.
Botox is also recommended for those who suffer from excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). This is because Botox injections administered to that area can decrease sweat gland activity and reduce or stop heavy perspiration.
Who Shouldn’t Get Botox ?
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not get Botox. There’s no clear evidence regarding Botox’s effects on pregnant women, but it would be ill-advised to receive the treatment while pregnant.
What is Laser Hair Removal ?
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses a concentrated laser to remove hair from the skin. It is often used to remove unwanted hair from the face, underarms, legs, and bikini area. However, there are some other areas that are commonly treated with laser hair removal. They can include the stomach, back, chest, neck, pubic area, and arms.
Who Should Get Laser Hair Removal ?
Anyone can benefit from laser hair removal, but it is especially ideal for people who have light skin and dark hair. The laser is able to more easily identify and target the dark hair follicles against the lighter skin. This also allows the technician to see the difference between the treated area and natural skin tone so they can more effectively evaluate their work.
That being said, it’s still possible for those with darker skin and/or lighter hair to undergo laser hair removal in most cases.
How to Maximize Your Results
Some tips for maximizing your laser hair removal treatment results include:
- ✦ Follow your laser hair removal technician’s instructions to the letter.
- ✦ Avoid sun exposure before and after your treatment.
- ✦ Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine before your treatment.
- ✦ Apply a cold compress to the treated area after your treatment.
- ✦ Avoid using any skincare products that contain alcohol or menthol before your treatment.
- ✦ Do not wax, pluck, or shave the treated area for at least 48 hours after your treatment.
- ✦ Avoid using any cosmetics on the treated area for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
- ✦ Follow up with your laser hair removal technician after each treatment session to ensure you’re getting the most out of them.
