QWO Cellulite Treatment at Michelle Esthetics

Cellulite affects 90% of all women, regardless of their shape, size, age, or ethnicity. Many people believe it is caused by excess fat, but it is not. That means that no amount of dieting or exercise will help you get rid of that orange-peel look.

Fortunately, there is a cellulite-fighting injectable treatment called QWO®. QWO (collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes) is the first (and only) FDA-approved injectable for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in adult women’s buttocks. It only takes three treatments, and the injections take no more than 10 minutes.

What Causes Cellulite?

Fibrous bands (also known as fibrous septae) connect the skin to the muscle and are generally thin. Cellulite, on the other hand, develops when those bands thicken and drag the skin downward. This traps the fat cells between the bands, causing them to push up on the skin and resulting in depressions and a cottage cheese-like appearance.

Cellulite primarily affects women, and the structural cause is these connective bands of tissue beneath the skin. In addition, women’s skin thins as they age, revealing what lies beneath the surface more readily than men’s.

How Does QWO® Cellulite Treatment Work?

Cellulite treatments have been largely ineffective up to this point in cosmetic history, ranging from topical creams to minimally invasive procedures like Cellfina. QWO is the first injectable treatment for cellulite to hit the market, and it has been a game-changer since it is quick, effective, and noninvasive.

QWO repairs cellulite-dimpled skin in three steps:

  1. QWO injections contain collagenases, which are naturally occurring enzymes that break down the specific types of collagen in the fibrous bands that create cellulite.
  2. Fat cells are reallocated once the fibrous bands are broken, resulting in smoother skin.
  3. QWO stimulates the production of new collagen, creating skin that is healthier and smoother.

The QWO® Procedure

We’ll sanitize the treatment area in preparation for your therapy, and then the treatment will begin. Each side of the buttocks can receive up to 12 injections of QWO cellulite treatment, which is delivered directly to the treatment site via tiny needles. It takes about 10 minutes to complete the therapy.

Following your treatment, we’ll go over what to expect in the days to come and whether you should come back for a follow-up procedure.

QWO® Results

The QWO injections are administered across three sessions, with each taking place three weeks apart. Patients frequently notice a reduction in the appearance of their cellulite following their first session, but results can vary. Over the next two sessions, the smoothing of the treatment areas becomes more apparent.

The enzyme will continue to break down more fibrous bands after the third session, so you’ll see fewer and fewer cellulite dimples. Four weeks after the third treatment, or 10 weeks after the first, you should expect to see your final results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?
The majority of patients achieve their best results after three treatment sessions spaced three weeks apart.
Will I experience any pain during the injections?
Overall, the discomfort is minor and brief. During your QWO treatment, you’ll feel a pinch and a small bit of pressure, just like with a Botox injection. But since there is more fat and fewer nerves in the buttocks, QWO injections are nearly painless.
What are the side effects of QWO® injections?
Patients in clinical trials did not require any downtime after receiving QWO injections. However, substantial injection site bruising, itching, edema, and warmth in the treatment area are common side effects of QWO. The area may also become hard, red, or discolored for a short time. In those studies, all of the negative effects went away on their own within three weeks, and the bruising went away in much less time.

In general, with each therapy session, the adverse effects of QWO tend to grow less severe and subside more quickly. QWO does have the potential for more serious side effects, but they are uncommon. Allergic (hypersensitive) reactions such as anaphylaxis are an example. But as long as you discuss such possibilities with your injector before undergoing this treatment, you’ll have nothing to worry about.

How long do results last?
There are no long-term results for QWO yet because it is a new treatment. However, it is expected to offer long-term results since it treats the structural origins of cellulite. The fat can migrate instead of remaining trapped between the fibrous bands when QWO destroys them.
Is QWO Safe?
With over 1,800 women participating in one study, QWO has seen more patients than any other FDA-approved cellulite treatment. The procedure was shown to be quite safe and effective, with adverse effects comparable to those seen with conventional cosmetic injectables.
Is QWO cellulite treatment available for the thighs?
QWO is currently only licensed to treat moderate to severe cellulite in adult women’s buttocks. Endo Aesthetics, QWO’s creators, are now researching the effects of additional treatment options.
Am I a good candidate for QWO?
QWO injections will benefit most adult women with cellulite. When treating cellulite in patients with good skin elasticity, QWO is ideal. During your free consultation with an injector at Michelle Esthetics, we’ll ask you some questions to see if you’re a good candidate for QWO. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in QWO, including collagenase, or if you have any bleeding issues, tell your injector before undergoing this therapy.

At the consultation, you will go over your medications with us and let us know if you are taking any specific ones, such as blood thinners. We’ll also examine you to make sure there’s no active infection in the treatment region. Finally you’ll also be asked if you’re expecting a child or if you’re currently breastfeeding.

As long as you don’t fit any of the descriptions listed above, you should be a good candidate for QWO injections.

How much does QWO® cellulite treatment cost?
The cost of QWO injections varies according to the number of treatment sessions you attend and the number of injections performed during each one. In general, one QWO treatment session at Michelle Esthetics costs about $800 to $1,000. Most clients need three treatment sessions to achieve their desired results.
